How To Use

1

Apply

Apply to dry, detangled hair, covering the scalp, behind ears and back of the neck. Leave in for 5-10 mins.
2

COMB

Draw fine-toothed comb through each section of hair from root to end. Wipe comb after each stroke onto white paper towel checking each time for head lice and nits. Comb each section of hair at least 5 times.
3

Wash

Wash hair as normal, dry and apply Itty Bitty Stay Away spray to dry hair. Scrub the comb with an old toothbrush to remove any eggs or lice that may be present. If you found live head lice, repeat steps 1-3 every 5-7 days until no lice have been found.

But most importantly, our kit delivers results!

Say No to Toxic Chemicals and Pesticides

Many parents find themselves scrambling for quick solutions. Often, this means resorting to harsh chemicals and pesticides that can cause discomfort and irritation to your little one’s already itchy scalp. Additionally, some scientists suggest that today’s ‘super’ nits and lice have developed resistance to many of these chemicals. That’s why we’re here to offer you a better alternative.

Our Story

As a Mum to two growing girls, both with long, thick hair, I have truly been through it when it comes to nits and head lice. I’ve treated them more times than I care to remember, and tried everything from chemical foams to natural treatments, hair straighteners and cheap conditioners… all to varying degrees of success. I’ve even had friends drop $400+ on in person treatments, only to have the nits come back the next week!!

Over time I realised nothing was quite working how I wanted it to, and realised that if I wanted my perfect solution to exist, I would have to make it myself.

Experience and tenacity helped me develop the perfect formulation for effective, chemical-free nit and head lice treatment that keeps the whole crew happy, while also getting rid of the problem.

Together with my girls and husband, we tested, improved, perfected and optimised the Itty Bitty Nit Kit so that you can easily get your hands on everything you need to keep your house nit and lice-free for at least a school term.

You’ll never be caught short again.

Remember, if you suspect a head lice infestation, it’s essential to address it promptly to prevent its spread to others and to avoid complications. Always follow the advice of healthcare professionals or school authorities when dealing with head lice infestations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are head lice?

Head lice are tiny, wingless parasitic insects that infest the human scalp. They survive by feeding on blood from the scalp, and their eggs (nits) are attached to the hair shafts close to the scalp.

How do head lice spread?

Head lice spread through direct head-to-head contact with an infested person. They cannot jump or fly, so they typically crawl from one person’s hair to another’s during close interactions.

Who is most at risk for getting head lice?

Head lice can affect anyone, but they are most commonly found in children aged 3-11 years. School-age children and those who live in close quarters with others, such as in daycare centres or camps, are more susceptible.

What are the symptoms of head lice infestation?

Common symptoms include persistent itching of the scalp, small red bumps or sores on the scalp, and the presence of lice or nits (eggs) in the hair, particularly near the scalp.

How do I check for head lice?

To check for head lice, carefully inspect the hair and scalp, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck, for the presence of live lice or their eggs (nits). Nits might look like tiny, oval-shaped white or yellowish specks attached to the hair shafts.

How can head lice be treated?

Over-the-counter medicated shampoos, lotions, or creams containing active ingredients like permethrin or pyrethrin are commonly used to treat head lice, but many scientists believe today’s head lice and nits are growing resistant to many of these insecticides. At Itty Bitty, we believe the most gentle and effective treatment involves smothering the nits and lice with our thick, non-drip “Stun and Smother” conditioner. We like to leave it in the hair for around 15 minutes, and then comb through each section of hair until the comb comes out clean.

Can head lice be prevented?

While it’s challenging to completely prevent head lice, we have found the non-greasy combination of tea tree oil and white vinegar solution can assist with preventing reinfestation. Other preventive measures include avoiding head-to-head contact, not sharing personal items like hats, combs, and hair accessories, and encouraging children to keep their belongings separate from others.

Are head lice a sign of poor hygiene?

No, head lice infestation is not a sign of poor hygiene. Lice can infect anyone, regardless of their personal hygiene practices. They prefer clean hair because it is easier for them to attach their eggs to the hair shafts.

How long can head lice survive off the scalp?

Head lice require blood meals to survive, and they cannot live for more than 1-2 days away from the human scalp. Nits (eggs) can survive away from the scalp for up to 7-10 days.

Should I keep my child home from school if they have head lice?

Most schools have specific policies regarding head lice infestations. In general, children with head lice should be treated promptly and may return to school after treatment has begun. Check with your child’s school for their specific guidelines.
